Funny and relatable, Charlotte Anne-Tilley’s production Twenties, from @theSpaceUK’s new line up of online shows, explores the trials and tribulations of young adulthood from the perspective of 21-year-old Hope. Mostly performed as a monologue interwoven with dialogue, wide-eyed and determined Hope (Charlotte Anne-Tilley) tells the story of leaving her small town life in Cheshire for the bright lights of London. As Hope tells her parents the news, their reaction was certainly one of the most relatable moments in the show. Kenneth Wilson’s new show for @theSpaceUK 2021 races from James Bond to weepy Irish lament (and Bach again).  The music of his cello provokes a poetical commentary, sometimes a lashing-out, to make you wake up and take notice.  Spoiler:  contains a few rude words. Kenneth’s cello soars and sings, and then swaggers and shouts.  In between it cascades, and laments.  It seems there’s nothing that can’t be said on the cello.  And then there’s his poetry – from his Lonely Heart (“psychosomatic, paranoic, hyperventilatic”) to the man “In the room of women”, and the shot birds that land “thudly in the grass”.  You won’t sleep through this one. With the Edinburgh Festival cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic some of the venues are supplying a virtual festival for those of us who are missing out on our annual pilgrimage to Scotland. I have been going to the Fringe for over a decade. It is an experience like no other as you spend every day going from comedy to drama to music to magic and then to some act you can’t quite classify but they were really quite good. You basically live in a bubble of creativity away from normal life and all its attendant worries.
