Firstly, a warning. If this were a film it would have an over 15s certificate. It seems that every sentence has a word starting with the letter “F”, admittedly much of it in context, although I would certainly be embarrassed if I had taken my mother along to see this play. Philharmonia: ‘American Dreams’ – Royal Festival Hall

After being away from their London home since March 2020, Philharmonia have come together (albeit in a socially distanced way), to stage this concert celebrating the work of Aaron Copland, Florence Price, Steve Reich and Igor Stravinsky. Conducted by the Orchestra’s Principal Conductor Designate Santtu-Matias Rouvali, this is a wonderful opportunity for the Orchestra to celebrate their 75th Anniversary and to help to raise funds to enable them to continue to produce their lively performances. Adding Machine: The Musical was first developed and performed in 2007 in Illinois, before moving to New York in 2008. In 2016 it was revived at the Finborough Theatre in London for a short run. Based upon American playwright Elmer Rice's 1923 play The Adding Machine, the musical adaptation retains the expressionistic and non-realistic approach of the original. Mr Zero is a faceless accountant in a big company, unrewarded at work and nagged at home by his wife, he loses himself in the numbers his job involves. Tonight is the penultimate concert in the live recording series ‘Tonight at the Coliseum’, produced by Take Two Theatricals in conjunction with Carter Dixon Productions and stream.theatre. This week is the turn of Rob Fowler and Sharon Sexton, who met when they were performing together in Bat out of Hell – The Musical. Tonight they shared some tracks from their debut album of duets, Vision of You, as well as singing some of their favourite songs. Filmed in London at The Royal Festival Hall in 2012, ‘Alfie Boe: Bring Him Home’ was not surprisingly a sell-out. Streamed as part of ‘The Shows Must Go On’ series, this is a performance not to be missed. Alfie Boe may be one very talented tenor, but this performance also showcases not only his powerhouse of a voice but also his charismatic stage presence. His personality is warm and engaging with the audience. With lots of audience ‘banter’, especially with a certain Matt Lucas in particular, he was instantly likeable and also displayed a very witty sense of humour throughout.
