Vardy v Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial is a fun retelling of the court trial between Rebekah Vardy and Colleen Rooney. The sensationalised story struts into the west end for a second run and brings together 7 days of court transcripts into a show that is surprisingly funny and entertaining. The cast and the creatives do not hold back in ridiculing Rebekah and Colleen, whilst at times this can be funny, there is something almost patronising undertone of undermining two young women. Halema Hussain and Nathan McMullen play two sports pundits who transform the transcripts into a football match. Kites – Vault Festival

Kites is a coming of age play about two girls growing up in the post-war era in Cork. The girls use their vivid imaginations to escape their childhood trauma! The play teases the idea that the girls are in love but does not directly address their sexuality directly. Tzarini Meylers’ script captures the magic of childhood. The play has a good pace, with narration that helps to give a sense of time and place and creates suspense for the audience. Tzarini uses the powerful imagery of kites to represent how the girls are tied down but desperate to fly away. The story does a good job of establishing the characters and friendship between the girls, ahead of diving into the deeper issues. The Wedding Speech is a one-woman show all about a toxic mother-daughter relationship. Rose has been asked to do a speech at her mother’s wedding. But Rose is hiding in the toilets as she would prefer to tell the audience the truth about how her mother mistreats her. This is a story about co-dependency and different ways two people deal with trauma. The show reaches a huge climax when Rose finally gives her speech. Cheryl May Coward-Walker’s play deals with the toxic parental relationship issue in a setting that has a lot of room for comedic moments. Avocado Presents: Improv – Barons Court Theatre

Avocado presents improv started and ended with Hazma Mohsin and Jake Migicovsky eating guacamole and chips. Through the show Jake and Hazma experimented with various different characters. Every time the story ended they rearranged the chairs and started a new story with different characters. Avocado Presents: Improve is a fun way to shake up your Thursday night trip to the pub. At the end of the show the actors also invited the audience to come and hang out with them! Jake and Hazma did have some funny moments and demonstrated that they had good chemistry on stage together. This show has allot of potential and room for further growth. With some more work this show could be hysterical. A Butcher of Distinction – Barons Court Theatre

Who would enjoy a butcher of distinction? Well, I can firmly say that this show is not for vegetarians. The show contains references to animal cruelty, death, sexual assault, suicide and blood (as thankfully we are warned before entering). This play by Rob Hays is chaotically dark and by touching on so many striking dark themes this play is not able to deal with any of these issues with any depth or meaning. The result is a play that successfully shocks its audience at every turn. Connor McCrory plays the bossy twin Hartley whilst his brother Hugo (Joseph Ryan-Hughes) timidly struggles to stand up to him. A Gig For Ghosts – Soho Theatre

A Gig for Ghosts at The Soho Theatre is a heart-warming story that tells of the romance between Lilly and Amy. The show is a gig theatre show with one act. There is a lot more story to this show than other shows I’d the same format which helps to bring alive the characters. Although the subject matter is dark the script is also funny. Amy (Hanora Carmen) has a morbid job administering deaths for forgotten people and Lilly (Rori Hawthorn) is temping and new to London. The two characters are complete opposite, Lilly is desperate to fall in love and Amy is more comfortable alone. Based on the hit Netflix series, Stranger Sings Parody Musical is an entertaining show that will have you laughing from start to finish. With a talented cast playing multiple roles this lively show brings all of your favourite Stranger Things characters to life. Johnathan Houge’s script is hilarious with lots of catchy songs that are glittered with 80’s references. As you enter the theatre you are drawn into the Hawkins set in Will’s house with fairy lights adorning the ceilings and walls. The bar is done up like Hopper’s cabin with an array of sofas, with the odd hanging torch on the ceiling, and the themed cocktails really help to build the atmosphere before the show. The set is quite simple with transformative props hidden around that take the audience to different parts of the story...
