Well… the fact our Lover Girl has Daddy issues explains a bit. She also has Mummy issues, which explains a whole lot more. That’s w-h-o-l-e, with a ‘w’. Having caught something on a poster or flyer predicting ‘low-brow content with high-brow delivery’, no-one will be disappointed with this show. But this wasn’t low brow; it was just open, honest, brave… and funny. And due to the ‘high-brow delivery’ even the double entendres elicited a healthy reaction where usually there would have been only groans. As the hour progresses it turns out this was just the aperitif to some more thought-provoking passages.
Temi is single and perplexed. She’s an excellent singer and dancer, taking the audience with her as she rails upon her situation with righteous, frustrated – and comic – indignation. She is attractive, entertaining, open to any gender and amongst other blessings, has an infinite pussy, which takes over some of the (pun intended) main character energy halfway through the show. Nailing what has led to this unsatisfactory state of affairs is probably more complex but the obvious flags are a strict – though successfully educated – upbringing and the aforementioned parental issues. And the church. Her infinite pussy introduces a great deal of delight into her life but doesn’t seem to have much regard for her long-suffering heart, leading her up several cul-de-sacs. It seems what she is seeking is more flexibility, more tolerance, less shunting people into categories like ‘straight’, ‘gay’, or ‘bi’, advising we should at least pop an asterix by each of these. In place of a patriarchy, matriarchy or hierarchy she’s recommending we find a ‘care-iarchy’, a more conscious approach to life. Tellingly, after one of the excursions dominated by her infinite pussy she confesses she doesn’t know what’s been happening, asking the audience for help. They oblige and Temi takes us through to the denouement, a busy, joyous finale where it seems the heart has finally started to pull rank.
