Pretty Woman – Sheffield Lyceum

With a £450 Million box office success, turning the blockbusting 1980’s film into a touring theatrical production was always going to attract curious followers and Sheffield Lyceum was no exception. I mean ‘Come on, who didn’t love the Cinderella–esque story! Pretty Woman is very much in the Pygmalion vein of down on their luck girl means the wealthy and dashing man of her dreams, this time set in Hollywood, A little old fashioned kind of theory by today’s standards?? But hey, it’s still a closeted nostalgic winner! With, to be honest, forgettable Music and Lyrics by Brian Adams and Jim Vallance and the book; which stays very close to the film; by Garry Marshall and J.F. Pretty Woman – Leeds Grand Theatre

Last night I took my first steps into Hollywood and wow what an amazing experience it was, I fell in love with the vibrant LED signs and light bulb infused palm trees, but nothing prepared me for the way I would become obsessed over the pretty woman storyline all over again. The beloved romance movie of the 80’s came alive once again onstage last night; Jerry Mitchell’s take on this fan favourite was everything you hoped it would be. Take a popular rom com add a little instrumental and some catchy musical numbers and you’ve got a night full of priceless entertainment and that’s exactly what was witnessed at Leeds opening night. I was in complete awe of the attention to detail, from the colourful 80’s costumes to the Beverly Hills hotel the resemblance was fascinating but also unique. As...

Pretty Woman – Edinburgh Playhouse

Pretty Woman the musical, book by Garry Marshall and J.F. Lawton and music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, is a joyous romp which is about as f...

Pretty Woman – Liverpool Empire

It was opening night last night of Pretty Woman, a show with extremely limited tickets throughout its run so it was lovely to have been invited to do a review for this show. Upon arrival at the theatre and taking our seats we were made aware that there was a cast change for this week. The role of Vivian Ward was to be played by Elly Jay. Now I must admit I know of the film Pretty Woman, but I have never seen it. So, for those who do know, please bear with me while I explain. It's set in LA when Billionaire Edward Lewis (Oliver Savile) is about to shut down a company and make millions with his lawyer. He gets lost in his lawyer’s car and ends up meeting a lady of the night known as Vivian Ward (Elly Jay) Edward offers to pay for Vivian but not in the way you might think. He hires her to dri...
