Come From Away – Montgomery Theatre

Ellesmere MTC had the pleasure of premiering the Sheffield amateur production of Come From Away, one of the longest running One Act Musicals! And the Rock highlighted more than a few precious gems within the cast, musicians and production team. Sparkling bright, the multi role playing twelve strong cast are polished and multi-faceted in their interpretation of Irene Sankoff and David Hein’s Book, music and lyrics. Come From Away is a real-life story of the power of humanity, against the backdrop of tragedy of 9/11. 38 planes were diverted on that fateful morning to the little Canadian town of Gander in Newfoundland, doubling the town’s inhabitants, the traumatised passengers had to rely totally on the hospitality and goodwill of these islanders. Splinters Theatre Group took The Montgomery Theatre by storm with their raucous production of iconic local tale Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, which has taken the West End and theatre world by storm since its debut at The Crucible in 2017. The earnest, extravagant story tells the tale of 16-year-old Sheffield lad Jamie New, who resists pressures to conform and, despite being out as gay, seeks a new challenge in fulfilling their passion of being seen and heard as a drag queen. Elf The Musical – Sheffield Lyceum

What a wonderful way to start the festive season, with more cheese than you would see on any Cheeseboard at Christmas! Elf - The Musical is based on the original film Elf written by David Berenbaum, staring Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf. The musical version does include a few changes from the film script, but its essence and Christmas spirit is very much alive. However, I did miss the snowball fight in the park though! (One of my favourite scenes). If anyone is unfamiliar with the storyline, we follow the story of Buddy, who is brought up in Christmastown by Santa and his elves. After crawling into Santa’s sack as a baby, Buddy is mistakenly transported to the North Pole.
