The Shocking Truth About Flat Earth sounds like the sort of title somebody might invent at two in the morning during the Fringe. Instead, this new musical from writers Alex Moneypenny and Adam Tuffrey is a remarkably smart, accomplished proposition that may have considerably further to travel. First, a word about the room. The Queen Dome at Pleasance Dome is a beautiful little theatre, nicely proportioned and with really no bad seats. Its onboard lighting and sound kit is among the best I have encountered at the Fringe, and certainly the sound here, in my experience, is never bad and frequently excellent. Making a Murderer: The Musical – Underbelly, Bristo Square

Making a Murderer: The Musical is a beautifully crafted, tongue in cheek, satirical show that at its beating heart has a message of hope and social justice. From the opening I was hooked, Emma Norman was fantastic as Betsy the tour guide, we begin with a song that sets the scene and tempo for the whole show. The lyrics are smart and satirical poking fun at the American small town mentality and the discrimination that goes along with that. The casting is so on point and the ensemble of characters, and their portrayals is phenomenal, this is a talented set of performers! Gypsy – Lowther Pavilion

What a lovely evening at the Lowther pavilion, Lytham, my first time at the theatre and a great welcome from The Christie Musical Theatre Company, with Gypsy the Musical. Gypsy is based on a real-life story of world-famous stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and has been made into a movie a couple of times, one of them starring Bette Midler. The story tells of Gypsy or Louise’s life growing up in the shadow of her talented younger sister June and the overbearing pushy stage mother Rose. I am very familiar with the script, musical score and storyline having appeared in this show twice myself, but even with that in mind I was in for a few surprises this evening, this certainly was not a standard by the book performance and the team have a few surprises up their sleeve to take us away from the exp...
