Twice Nightly – Bombed Out Church

Twice Nightly, written, directed by and starring Maria Lovelady and Michael Alan Bailey, is a fun comedy which explores the world of variety entertainment in 1931 and the impact of film on the theatre industry. Don (Bailey) and Madge (Lovelady) are down on their luck cabaret performers who are frustrated with their underappreciative employer and not being hailed as the superstars they deserve to be. Opening with a synchronised song and dance number, both Bailey and Lovelady demonstrate excellent musical theatre skills throughout the piece. Live music is provided by musical director, Jessica Dives, with fun accordion melodies giving the piece a feeling of the 1930s music hall. A Brief Conversation about the Inevitability of Love – Bombed Out Church

Ian Salmon’s A Brief Conversation about the Inevitability of Love, directed by Mikee Dickinson, is a sweet romance about the almosts and what might have beens that everyone has buried in their memories. Mark (Thomas Galashan) and Cathy (Samantha Alton) are discussing their past relationships. Mark’s ex-wife Suzanne hates all of his friends, and he hates hers, while Cathy’s relationship with Philip was plagued by his serial infidelity. Both Galashan and Alton are dressed casually, with a similar colour scheme, which brings them together as characters. Cool blue light warms up to medium pink giving the play an eerie, dreamlike quality. The piece is very funny throughout with tongue in cheek humour as the characters make fun of each other. Young Everyman Playhouse bring toil and trouble of a different kind to the Bombed Out Church this summer

This summer, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres’ Young Everyman Playhouse programme will perform a modern version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, in the outdoor setting of St Luke’s Bombed Out Church. The young actors will take over the iconic Liverpool church at the top of Bold Street, tackling one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, for five performances from 21st – 25th July. In this bold and inventive YEP production, a female Macbeth takes centre stage. Kingdoms are replaced for street corners, broadswords for pocket knives and armies for gangs as one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies is re-imagined by and for young theatregoers. Theatre is alive once again here in Liverpool, the Bombed-out Church is hosting the Liverpool Theatre Festival by Bill Elms Associates. Offering theatre from plays to comedy and even music. Its fair to say its been a rather odd few months with the Corona Virus but last night felt like theatre has never been away. Each pod was socially distanced, and it was seat service when it came to ordering drinks. Before entering your temperature is taken and hands are sanitised. The staff of the festival were on the ball when it came to safety. Last night’s entertainment was a comedy night from Laughterhouse Comedy. New Liverpool Theatre Festival To Take Place Outdoors In September

Liverpool theatre producer Bill Elms has created a nine-day outdoor live performance festival to support the city’s devastated theatre scene in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Liverpool Theatre Festival will take place between Friday 11th September and Saturday 19th September 2020 and is being staged in association with the team behind St Luke’s Bombed Out Church. The event will take place within the church walls, in the grounds of St Luke’s in the heart of Liverpool city centre and will follow stringent social distancing and Government guidelines. Tickets for Liverpool Theatre Festival go on sale at 12pm on Thursday 27th August. Tickets start from £10.
