The Scouse Red Riding Hood – Liverpool’s Royal Court

The Scouse Red Riding Hood, written by Kevin Fearon and directed by Mark Chatterton, with musical direction from Howard Gray, the creative team that engineered successful previous Royal Court Christmas shows, such as The Scouse Cinderella, The Scouse Snow White and The Scouse Jack & The Beanstalk is the theatre’s re-telling of children’s fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood with a twist. This adult panto contains an abundance of Liverpool-style innuendo and near-the-knuckle jokes plus a lot of swearing, so not suitable for youngsters.  The storyline is funnily sharp-witted and works perfectly providing laughs galore including lots of home-grown Liverpool colloquialisms, Red-versus-Blue footie jokes and the cast naming local Merseyside landmarks. It’s difficult to provide too many...

Come Together – Liverpool’s Royal Court

Liverpool came together last night at the Royal Court Theatre to hear the Lennon and McCartney songbook. Written by Tom Connor and Mark Newnham who were playing The Beatles frontman, they came on to the stage and immediately included the audience with their relaxed approach and engaged with us as if we were all friends on the famous rooftop having a chat about how the lads came up with the songs that are famous among the Liverpool streets and the world. However, John couldn’t play the harmonica and sing it at the same time so gave the line to Paul and the rest is as they say his...

Something about George – Liverpool Theatre Festival

Something about George is a concert with a difference. Written and musically directed by Jon Fellows, it utilises live musical performance, storytelling and contemporaneous recordings to tell the story of the youngest member of one of Britain’s most famous most successful and enduring bands. Opening with the iconic screams of girls hysterical over Beatlemania, and the announcement that the Beatles have broken up quickly brings a halt to the story of the Fab Four. Performed by three musicians: Daniel Taylor and Fellows on guitar and Ben Gladwin on keyboard, the show combines a showcase of George Harrison's post-Beatle repertoire with anecdotes and stories from his life after the breakup of the band. Taylor narrates the story of Harrison's life and tells us that George was both the you...
