The concept of this, from the group that also produces Shamilton earlier in the day, is to take shouted audience suggestions and to create a hilarious comedy musical on the spot. When I visited, Mimi Todd and Dear Euan McGregor were considered, but the clear winner on the shoutometer was Barbies of The Galaxy – the Musical. And I grudgingly have to admit that it was pretty damn amazing what they came up with. A funny, quirky, catchy musical with some inspired choreography, amazing music, great singing. Alone – Assembly George Square Studios

Alone is a sci-fi drama following scientist (Kat Glass) and pilot (Courtney Bassett) on a mission to save the earth from the raising CO2 emissions through extra-terrestrial microbiology. The use of drama to explore climate change makes the topic of sustainability more accessible to the non-scientists amongst us. Also, the feminist themes shone an incredibly important spotlight on the silencing of female scientists in research. This was the first time I have seen a show addressing the sexism of scientific academia and I feel gratitude towards this play for recognising and publicising this inequality. This show is not for the faint-hearted or easily offended. And that’s a good thing. I Consent is an utterly outrageous, and hilariously entertaining hour of drag-show comedy. Aunty Ginger has excellent stage presence from the second she introduces herself with a parody of ‘(Hey) Big Spender’. You may be able to guess what word she replaced ‘Spender’ with… I won’t pretend I’m an expert in drag styling and fashion, but I was incredibly impressed by her make-up, fabulous ginger wig and matching jewellery. The dress, designed by Peter Hewitt, was black and tight. Perfect for the occasion. In short, Aunty Ginger looked spectacular. This was – Over the Line! Discriminatory, controversial, anti-Semitic. As a man (can I say that?), who lives with a Jewish lady, who’s business partner is Jewish and has many Jewish friends, you cannot say what you said today. You know the line! You know the line; the line that draws a gasp, a shriek, a howl. The line that after a while as a performer you become addicted to.
