Message In a Bottle – The Lowry

Based on the songs of Sting; Message in a Bottle is a breathtaking dance production that immerses its audience in a captivating narrative of hope, resilience, and human connection.

It is really quite incredible!

From the opening scene to the final curtain call, this show delivers an emotional rollercoaster that will leave your heart so full, following the story of one family and their three teenage children as they are uprooted and displaced by civil war and go through the harsh reality of fleeing for safety.

The choreography by Kate Prince is nothing short of extraordinary. Every movement, every gesture, and every leap conveys a profound story, captivating the audience and creating a powerful visual spectacle.

The dance sequences are executed flawlessly, blending contemporary and urban styles with raw energy and precision. Prince has truly managed to create a unique language of movement that speaks directly to the soul with an extremely talented company.

What truly sets Message in the Bottle apart is its ability to transcend language and cultural barriers. The narrative, which centres around themes of love, loss, and the search for belonging, resonates deeply with people from all walks of life. Through the power of dance and with the incredible back catalogue of Sting, the show’s creators have crafted a universal tale that ignites a sense of shared humanity.

Using Sting’s back catalogue makes the show seem more accessible and familiar, while delivering something totally fresh and unique.

The original songs have been reworked and new arrangements composed specifically for the production, featuring new vocals from Sting, Beverley Knight and Lynval Golding.

Incredible hits such as ‘Englishman in New York’, ‘Fields of Gold’, ‘Every Breath you Take’ are seamlessly intertwined with the choreography, adding depth and emotion to every scene. Whether it’s the haunting melodies or the energetic beats, the music becomes a character in itself, guiding the audience through the story with a pulsating rhythm.

The set design by Ben Stones is simplistic but works well. The integration of lighting, set pieces, and projections creates a dynamic and ever-evolving world on stage. The use of innovative technology enhances the storytelling, transporting the audience from the depths of despair to moments of joy and celebration.
