North Yorkshire’s Deer Shed Festival have announced a theatre and comedy programme to run alongside music headliners John Grant and Self Esteem.
Deer Shed’s theatre programme has become one of the reasons so many families flock to Baldersby Park near Thirsk. This year’s programme includes drag shows, vogueing, hilarious live game shows raising awareness of life with a disability, household comedians being hoisted into trees to improvise sets and a good old fashioned royal rumble wrestling show with colourful costumes, characters and capes.
Away from the bedlam of the music stage theatre lovers can kick back with shows from companies including Shlomo, Les Enfants Terribles (A Gameshow For Awful Children) , Below The Belt, Kapow Wrestling, This is Your Trial, Family Catwalk Extraveganza, Jonathon’s Drag Dancing Unicorn, Pop up puppet Theatre, Musical Bingo and Comedy up a Tree.
Their comedy offer is a mix of PG and 14+ rated performances featuring TV favourites Rosie Jones, Suzi Ruffell, Paul Foot, Brett Domino Trio and Jayde Adams. They are joined by self-described ‘Anarchist comedy-wizard’ Andrew O’Neill, comedian, presenter & broadcaster Aurie Styla and rising star Njambi McGrath.
‘Podfather’ Richard Herring will be bringing his always popular RHLSTP podcast to the fields for a live recording featuring a very special guest, while British comedy institution Chortle are teaming up with Deer Shed on their Comedy Book Club.
As the family-friendly festival prepares to make its full-return for the first time since 2019, there will also be a Science Tent packed with excited activities including a Delia Derbyshire Workshop, Gizmobots and Synth Building.
They are also creating a huge sports field hosting wrestling, tag archery, skate boarding, BMXing, circus, parkour, kayaking, tree climbing, crazy golf, football and DIY sports.
Deer Shed 12 will take place on 29th – 31st July 2022, and last tickets are on sale via https://deershedfestival.com
