A murder mystery by Agatha Christie welcomes Miss Marple played by the wonderful Liza Goddard to The Mill at Sonning. The Mirror Crack’d is everything you want it to be; a murder mystery with moments of suspense and wit. This village is coming to terms with a Murder at Gossington Hall the home of a Hollywood Movie star Marina Gregg and everyone is a suspect! or are they? Fans of Agatha Christie and Miss Marple will enjoy it, and new audiences will experience a night of pleasure at the plot twists and turns of this murder mystery.
Rachel Wagstaff’s adaptation has breathed new life into this classic work of Agatha Christie; a refresh whilst staying true to the blueprint of the original. The scenes changes are slick as the characters ebb and flow from Miss Marple’s Living room, the film studio and Gossington Hall.
The bold artistry is clearly defined when a ‘recap’ of the moments of each’s suspects, and witness accounts are shared in such way you must sit back and admire the skill of this sublime cast.

There are the predictable twists and turns you would expect throughout with the banter between Miss Marple and the Chief Inspector Dermot Craddock played superbly by James Mack. This story moves at a gentle but urgent pace, with scene changes matching the tempo supported by the lighting and music which extenuates the ‘whodunnit vibe’ within this mystery.
These bursts of acting produced some of the real classic Marple moments. Stand out performances by all the cast who gelled well together and there was a true sense they were enjoying every minute of it. A great performance was the eccentrically muse Dolly Bantry played by Annie Wensak delivering some laugh out loud moments.
The Mirror Cracked is a well-executed play and should be on your bucket list. Rachel Wagsataff has breathed life back into Miss Marple and her disciples.
