SIX (Teen Edition) – George Lawton Hall, Mossley

This production would normally have taken place at the spiritual home of NK Theatre Arts at the Romiley Forum, but due to circumstances beyond anybody’s control, this venue became unavailable at very short notice, so it was moved to the George Lawton Hall in Mossley, which was the only place that could accommodate this production at relatively short notice. Within the space of two weeks the stage and production including the technical side was moved over 10 miles to the new venue, so it can only be imagined the difficulties that entailed – and this was before the show even started! Rehearsals were taking place at different venues, and it is amazing that the production went ahead at all! But go ahead it did, thank goodness. Speaking to the director, Paul Wilson, he informed me that they...

SIX – Vaudeville Theatre

Divorced, beheaded, live! Bursting with charm, humour and girl power, the modern musical ‘Six’ divulges the untold stories of Henry VIII through his six wives in an innovative and witty concert-style score. A step away from the conventional musical style, the wives of Henry VIII are in sisterly competition to ascertain which one of them had the most tragic end to their story. Each Queen has their time to shine with their solo, the other Queens providing faultless ensemble support. The moments where all six were in perfect unison and harmony were particularly special especially in the final number “Six”, their slick and impeccably timed choreography a joy to experience. Paired with each of their incredible belts, the songs are catchy and full of melodic and rhythmical surprises. T...

SIX – Empire Theatre, Liverpool

What would happen if you took hit musical Hamilton, gave it some Eurovision cheese, some Drag Race sauce, some Little Mix girl power and some unashamedly British humour - and then made it about Henry VIII’s wives? Six of course. Less of a musical, more of a concert, this empowering 80-minute sass-fest is something completely different. With a symbolically all-female cast and all-female band (the effortlessly cool Ladies in Waiting: Musical Director / Keys - Anna Senger, Guitar - Laura Browne, Drums - Migdalia Van Der Hoven, Bass - Ashley Young) it really does feel as though you’re at a sold-out high-production pop show. We meet the six queens (Catherine of Aragon - Chlöe Hart, Anne Boleyn - Jennifer Caldwell, Jane Seymour - Casey Al-Shaqsy, Anna of Cleves - Grace Melville, Katherine...

Reign delays in Salford

Not even Royalty can escape the latest Covid-19 tier restrictions announced by the Government on Thursday which saw Salford plunged into tier 3. The result of this means that theatres are (inexplicably in our opinion) forbidden to open, and as such SIX! The Musical has been forced to delay its latest reign at The Lowry. The show is now planning to open on the 19th December and play until the 17th January 2021 providing the Government see sense and move the North West into tier 2 as part of a nationwide review on the 16th December, the tier the statistics suggest they should have been put in in the first place! Audience members who hold tickets for the postponed shows until 17th December will be contacted by the venue in order to move them to a different date or provide a refund,...
