An Evening without Kate Bush – Waterside Arts

Well, I expected this show to be a straightforward tribute to Kate Bush – how wrong I was, it was so much more. I would probably describe it as more like a comedy show with Kate Bush songs thrown in. It did help if (like the majority of the audience) you were an ardent fan of Kate Bush herself, although this was by no means an essential pre-requisite for enjoying the show. The lights dimmed and a darkly clad Sarah-Louise Young appeared on the stage to the sounds of Hounds of Love and this initiated a section of audience participation where a couple of willing volunteers were enticed onto the stage to sing backing vocals to the song Cloud bursting, which had all the audience waving their arms in time to the music. An Evening Without Kate Bush – Soho Theatre

I discovered quite quickly that I was in a room full of super fans. Now, I’m a fan but mostly through my dad, who now and again will beautifully reminisce to Wuthering Heights as well as the heights of his vocal range. An Evening without Kate Bush – Liverpool Theatre Festival

Before there was Ga Ga, Bjork or Sia, there was Kate Bush. Considered by some as genius, by others as just plain weird, Bush has entertained and bemused for some five decades with her otherworldly vocals and lashings of theatrical flair. Tonight, she’s not here, but we are. Created by Sarah-Louise Young- who has cut her comedic chops with stints in Fascinating Aïda, and the award-winning musical improv troupe The Showstoppers- and Russell Lucas, ‘An Evening Without…” celebrates not just the music but the loyal and devoted fans who have steadfastly followed their idol for years.   Describing this show as merely a ‘tribute act’ would do a massive injustice to Young’s sensational performance. Whilst she modestly brushes away any ambition to sound precisely like Bush, (‘who co...
