Northern Chamber Orchestra return to the live stage to close its 2020-21 season

The Northern Chamber Orchestra will be joined by cellist and baritone Matthew Sharp to play works by Tchaikovsky and Mozart on Saturday 22nd May (5.30pm and 8.00pm) Matthew Sharp an award-winning, internationally recognised cellist, baritone, director, recording artist and educator. He is the NCO’s Artist in Association and has previously performed with Opera North, Manchester Camerata, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Northern Chamber Orchestra launch ‘Seat Out’ fundraising campaign

For every socially distanced seat sold at the NCO’s Macclesfield concerts, an average of four seats must be taken off sale. The COVID-19 pandemic has been catastrophic for the arts, and the Northern Chamber Orchestra is no exception. While we have been able to stage some incredible, socially distanced concerts, for every seat we sell we must take four seats off sale. This is financially unviable, and we can’t continue this way for much longer. We are therefore asking our supporters to consider donating to our ‘Seat Out’ campaign, to help the NCO – the North West’s oldest professional chamber orchestra – remain afloat into 2021 and beyond. Northern Chamber Orchestra returns to the stage in December

The Northern Chamber Orchestra, the oldest professional chamber ensemble in the North West of England, returns to the stage on Saturday 5th December to play two concerts for socially distanced audiences. The concerts take place at the orchestra’s Macclesfield home, the Heritage Centre, and run for an hour each. The programme has been planned with social distancing guidelines in mind, meaning less space for musicians on the stage. The NCO’s leader and Artistic Director Nicholas Ward (violin) will lead a small ensemble in Haydn’s Violin Concerto in G major, a simple yet cheerfully lovely piece guaranteed to raise a smile.
