Natalie Palamides: WEER – Soho Theatre

Fresh from a run at New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre, Natalie Palamides’s one-woman romcom WEER, returns to London. Palamides plays both sides of the couple; her left side is Kristina, and her right side is Mark, and her hair, makeup, and multiple costumes are all split down the middle. Palamides’s performance is spectacular. By turning a different side of her body to the audience, and totally altering her voice and physicality, she switches back and forth seamlessly between the two characters at breakneck speed. She extremely skilfully and hilariously depicts arguments, physical struggles, and lovemaking between the two characters, and throughout the 85-minute show she mines this setup for all the comedic gold it contains to constantly deliver new, unexpected, hysterical gags. Palamides ...

WEER – Soho Theatre Walthamstow

I was exhausted as I sat down in the newly opened Soho Theatre Walthamstow to watch Natalie Palamides’ WEER. It had been a long day at work and, if I’m honest, I needed a bit of a pick-me-up. Luckily, Palamides more than delivered. I am not exaggerating when I say that WEER was one of, if not the funniest plays I have ever seen. The premise is simple; Palamides’ plays both sides of a couple in turmoil. And I mean that literally. One side of her, ‘Mark’, sports a beard, wig, and stereotypically masculine clothes, whilst the other side, ‘Christina’, wears a dress. At least to start with… the number of costume changes Palamides managed to pull off was something to behold. I was amazed by how distinct Palamides’ portrayals of Mark and Christina were. They each had unique physical mannerisms...

Natalie Palamides: WEER – Traverse Theatre

Clown princess Natalie Palamides has become a force to be reckoned with, scoring huge acclaim with her first Edinburgh outing, Laid, in 2017, which won her Best Newcomer award, and Nate (Netflix special 2020). Last year she directed Bill O’Neill’s superb The Amazing Banana Brothers, a Fringe highlight. Any new work by this performer is now very much on the radar. So, it was an absolute delight to see that the 34-year-old LA-based performer was returning this year with a solo show to world premiere at the Traverse. The show does not disappoint. It’s a hilarious hot-mess of clown mayhem in the style of a ’90s-style romcom, which stars Palamides as a pair of star cross'd lovers, having a quarrel at a party cabin in the woods, before midnight as the millennium fast approaches. Y2K ma...
