The Lawrence Batley Theatre announces Summer season

The Lawrence Batley Theatre has announced that live entertainment will return to the venue from Monday 7th June with a season of socially distanced and outdoor performances. The West-Yorkshire theatre, which is currently operating a beer garden with live outdoor music in its Courtyard space, will open its summer season with the Donmar Warehouse installation, Blindness as part of its seven venue UK tour. The Importance of Being Earnest – Lawrence Batley Theatre & The Dukes

Oscar Wilde’s wonderfully adroit and sharply observed comedy involving romantic mischief and the pursuit of love is reimagined and adapted by writer Yasmeen Khan. This digital co-production between the Laurence Batley Theatre Huddersfield and The Dukes Lancaster uses some film and video techniques throughout and the results are both slick and well-paced. Using the basic narrative of the original play, Khan, cleverly transfers the action of the story to modern day. All-star cast for The Picture of Dorian Gray at Bolton Octagon

Russell Tovey, Stephen Fry and Joanna Lumley head an all-star cast for a digital production of The Picture of Dorian Gray at Bolton Octagon. Following the success of their online plays, The Understudy and Nigel Slater’s ‘Toast’, The Lawrence Batley Theatre Huddersfield has announced that it has commissioned three critically acclaimed, UK dance companies to create three, site specific works for camera. Available to watch online, ticketholders will enjoy two contemporary dance solos and a short ballet. Featuring choreography by Jordan James Bridge (dancer, Studio Wayne McGregor), Daniel de Andrade (Artistic Associate, Northern Ballet) and Gary Clarke (Artistic Director, Gary Clarke Company) the three works will be choreographed in isolation, using video calling software to set the work on the company’s professional dancers.
