A Thousand Splendid Suns shine on Leeds Playhouse

A new stage version of Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns is one of the highlights of next year’s Spring/Summer season at Leeds Playhouse. It opens in Birmingham ahead of transferring to the Quarry Theatre at Leeds Playhouse from 28th May – 14th June 2025 as part of a national tour.  Directed by former Birmingham Rep and Hampstead Theatre Artistic Director Roxana Silbert, the production is set in 1992 in an Afghanistan ravaged by war. Orphaned Laila is left alone in an increasingly threatening world, but her older neighbour Rasheed is quick to open his home to take Laila as his second wife. ...

Directed by Giles Croft with Design by Barney George and Composition and Musical Direction by Jonathon Girling this production is all encompassing and draws the audience into a time of affronting through Amir’s own story. If you have read the 2003 book, then I would say this production; ...

Full of excitement with the skies full of colour, no one can foresee what is about to happen and how it will tear friends and family apart for good. The story, told through the eyes of Amir, portrayed brilliantly by Stuart Vincent, who jumps in and out of the action, both narrating and playing the char...
