Cinderella – Lyric Hammersmith

Lyric Hammersmith’s annual panto promises endless family fun in this modern retelling of Cinderella. In this story Cinderella is a thriving business woman who isn’t quite honest about how hard life is on Instagram. Filled with recognisable songs with a cheeky panto twist, this panto is not to be missed. The Lyric Theatre runs as a Charity and offers a number of complementary tickets to local schools during the panto season and also runs a number of initiatives to support the local community theatre scene. Despite the charitable status, the lyric is still able to mount a West End level show! Tilly La Belle Yengo used fantastic vocals as Cinderella. She led the cast effortlessly, pacing the play perfectly, enjoying some comical moments of interaction with the audience. Tilly’s Cinderel...

Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder! – HOME Manchester

Debuting at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe, this East Yorkshire-based murder mystery (a Hull-dunnit if you will) has been expanded ahead of a second run. Childhood besties and idlers Kathy (Bronté Barbé) and Stella (Rebekah Hinds) share a joint passion for grisly true crime through a podcast that’s about as popular as they are. Kathy and Stella gets off to a flying start, with Jon Brittain’s sweary script evoking lots of belly laughter from the audience. We’re introduced to ...

Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder – Summerhall Roundabout

BFFs Kathy and Stella are true-crime fans hosting a podcast on the subject in Hull. With it, they dream of making the big time (and avoiding their other problems) but their best chance is blown when their favourite investigator-author is murdered. Building on the skills they've no doubt absorbed through osmosis, they resolve to crack the case themselves. Making good use of the venue's theatre-in-the round mise en scene, Bronté Barbé, Rebekah Hinds, Jodie Jacobs, TJ Lloyd and Imelda Warren-Green (in particular) are energetic, funny and likeable, navigating effortlessly between the humour, drama, and, of course, singing, ably accompanied by live keyboards, with the lighting underlining well the mood, punctuating the joke and energising the scene transitions. However, the show is sl...

But I’m A Cheerleader: The Musical – Turbine Theatre

Based on the 1999 cult comedy film starring Natasha Lyonne and drag icon Ru Paul which has become a queer classic, But I’m A Cheerleader: The Musical, written by Bill Augustin and Andrew Abrams, has been a decade in the making. The show marks the first brand-new musical to be staged at The Turbine Theatre in London. Directed by Tania Azevedo, the show tells the story of Megan (Alice Croft), the all-American high school cheerleader who seemingly has the perfect life with her jock boyfriend and loving parents until she is shipped off to True Directions, a gay conversion camp after they suspect she is a lesbian. Spearheaded by the strict camp leader Mary Brown (Tiffany Graves), Megan undergoes a five-step programme with the hope that it’ll banish her sexual urges when she unexpectedly meet...
