Slung Low and Freedom Studios team up to premiere new short plays for radio

Two of Yorkshire’s best known theatre companies are staging an afternoon of new short plays written for radio to be performed in front of a live audience. For the past decade Leeds based Slung Low have been running 15 Minutes Live and this time they will partner with acclaimed Bradford theatre company Freedom Studios. They’ve commissioned six playwrights to write an original short play to be recorded in front of a live audience at The Holbeck venue in Leeds on Saturday 10th July at 2pm. Freedom Studios offer free playwriting course with award winning writer Lisa Holdsworth

Bradford theatre company Freedom Studios is offering an eight week Introduction to Playwriting course this summer aimed at people with little or no experience of writing for the screen or theatre. The course will focus on the basics of theatre writing including character, story, structure, plot development, writing realistic dialogue and theatricality. The course will be run by writer Lisa Holdsworth, a BAFTA-nominated television writer who has also written several acclaimed theatre productions including the critically acclaimed Freedom Studios production of Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile. On television Lisa has written for Emmerdale, All Creatures Great and Small, A Discovery of Witches, New Tricks and Waterloo Road. She is also the chair of the Writers Guild of Great Britain....

Freedom Studios have announced that Nicole Joseph is the new Associate Producer at the Bradford based theatre company. Freedom Studios looking for new Youth Theatre members

Award-winning Bradford theatre company Freedom Studios are looking for new members aged between 11-19 to join their Youth Theatre. Freedom Studios’ youth theatre continues to offer free weekly sessions and workshops creating a space where young people can connect, create, and express themselves. Some of the Youth Theatre members have formed a small film production company to make a short film. Bradford theatre company Freedom Studios are looking for experienced writers to join Street Voices 8, the company’s popular free six-month playwriting course. They want to support distinctive voices who can offer new perspectives, but have an ability to write, and the potential to develop their skills. They will work under the guidance of playwright and previous course graduate Zodwa Nyoni, who went on to write Boi Boi is Dead for Leeds Playhouse, Tiata Fahodzi, & Watford Palace Theatre.
