Dagmarr’s Dimanche: Songs from the Cinema – Crazy Coqs, London

I had the pleasure of reviewing Hersh Dagmarr perform in September 2025 and so I was very excited to review this instalment of Dagmarr’s Dimanche. To my delight, this show was even better than the last. Glamorous vampire Hersh Dagmarr, decked out in dazzling sequins, takes a break from the cabaret scene of Weimar Berline to take the audience on a decedent tour of songs from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Accompanied by pianist and arranger Karen Newby, Dagmarr sings a variety of songs from films, some of which I knew and the rest of which I was very pleased to be introduced to. Dagmarr has absolute command of the stage and gorgeous singing voice. He is utterly engaging and captures the emotions behind the lyrics beautifully. Between songs, Dagmarr evangelises about the complex and ...

Dagmarr’s Dimanche – Crazy Coqs

Hidden away beneath the streets of Picadilly, glitzy Art Deco venue Crazy Coqs provides the perfect venue for an anachronistic cabaret show performed by a vampire: Dagmarr’s Dimanche. Singer Hersh Dagmarr has absolute command of the stage. His voice is powerful and emotive, and he effortlessly draws the audience into the stories contained within the lyrics. With songs arranged by pianist Karen Newby, the eclectic setlist playfully jumps around from Édith Piaf to Kylie Minogue, via Cole Porter, Madonna, Sondheim, and the Pet Shop Boys. Dagmarr continually plays with the audience’s expectations, teasing one song and then performing another. A Kylie Minogue medley featuring riffs from ‘Willkommen’ and ‘Mack the Knife’ caught the audience especially off-guard, in the best possible way. My p...

Hugh Panaro: Man Without a Mask – Crazy Coqs

He is not shy about sharing his feelings about the roles he didn’t get before becoming one of Broadway’s greatest stars. This show is perfectly pitched at a level to introduce the Broadway greats of time gone by and bring on ‘The Girls’. In this production Hugh sings with Christina Bianco an American actress, singer and impressionist, best known for her theatre work and impersonations of the stars like Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland and Lady Gaga. She has received acclaim in the role of Fanny Brice in the Paris premiere of Funny Girl. She duets A Little Fall of Rain with Hugh in a touching tribute, followed by a rendition of her unique style of comedic impersonations bringing to the stage; Liza Minnelli, Julie Andrews to name a few. Offering a flavour of true American cabaret to th...

An Evening with David Bedella – Crazy Coqs

Opening with an exciting musical song, I presumed that David Bedella would take us on a journey through his award-winning résumé. A little Frank-N-Furter here, a Max Martin song from &Juliet over there.  I was surprised. Instead, we were served an array of music genres, all with the velvety vocals that Bedella delivers. The cabaret had the air of a sophisticated dinner party, with the guests being treated to a song or two from the host. We were given the story behind the choices; from an aspiring country career to his mother’s favourite song. Sitting on a barstool, delivering titbits directly to camera, the performance felt relaxing and intimate. It’s clear that Bedella is a very natural storyteller; through the conversation and the songs themselves. The rapport between perf...

These two New York City singles have been set up by friends and family, but from the outset this first date seems to be doomed. The two have nothing in common… But with the help of a meddling but well-meaning waiter, and a host of other characters along the way, can this mismatched pair turn what could b...
