The Regent Theatre Stoke-on-Trent was welcomed to Burlesque in style. The 2010 film had been transformed into a stage show, which glistens in just the same way as its cinematic counterpart. When you entered the theatre, you were instantly met with three spotlit mirrors, transporting you into the vaudeville feel of Burlesque, with some modern twists. The cast slinked across the stage before the show began, creating an atmosphere like no other. The costumes were a sight to behold from the off, glittering under the lights. The iconic music from the film was incorporated into the show alongside some new songs written by the formidable Todrick Hall. Following the success of the 2010 smash hit film starring global superstars Christina Aguilera and Cher, I knew it would only be a matter of time before Burlesque was converted to a stage show – with the glitz, the glamour and the Broadway-esque showtunes, it’s a perfect fit for the big stage. There were certainly moments of pure brilliance that could have only been delivered in such a format as theatre, but I do have to say that some moments did leave a little to be desired, which was such a shame for a show of this calibre. Burlesque the Musical announces Scottish Premiere in Glasgow & return to Manchester following sell-out season

Following an unprecedented sold-out season at Manchester Opera House in June, producers of the World Premiere of Burlesque the Musical - the first ever stage adaptation of Steven Antin’s crowd-pleasing musical sensation, Burlesque which starred Christina Aguilera, Cher, Kristen Bell and Stanley Tucci - today announced that the production will make its Scottish Premiere in Glasgow in September, and return to the Manchester Opera House in October, prior to a West End transfer.
