Improv the Dead – Bridewell Theatre

Zombie-themed group, Improv the Dead, performed their one hour long-form improv show last night at the Bridewell Theatre as part of this year's Camden Fringe festival. With shambling, moaning and sparkly intestines, they turn audience suggestions into a zombie film with more laughs than horror. Last night's show told the story of 'Delay of the Dead', where terrified TfL workers had to escape a zombie-infested Bakerloo line. Time travel, rat catching and experiments in cloning led to an underground teeming with the undead, who were eventually defeated by being trapped in the carriages of the London Eye, doomed to an eternity of circular sightseeing. Stephen Sondheim's Company won six Tony Awards for its original 1970 US production. Its witty and innovative format of a series of vignettes, focusing on the central character Bobby, stunned audiences then and continues to delight with a message that's as relevant today as it was 50 years ago. It's Bobby's 35th birthday and he's reluctantly at a surprise party thrown by his friends. Surrounded by married and single friends, ex- and current girlfriends, Bobby witnesses the swirl of emotions, the joy and the heartbreak of being in relationships of all types. As the drink, weed and emotions flow, Bobby's married friends set him up with dates and try to persuade him that he needs to be married. Alone, Together – Bridewell Theatre

Directed and written by Francesca Woods, Alone, Together offers an insight into the lives of six teachers working at the same school. Wood goes beyond the “masks” that these teachers put on each day as they step into the classroom, exploring the numbing sense of loneliness that ties these very different people together. We see how these characters connect through three different stories, exploring everything from love to loss. More dramatic scenes are interspersed between more light-hearted moments that portray the development of these characters’ relationships with different songs setting the scene.
