Irrelevant comes to Seven Dials Playhouse

Coming to Seven Dials Playhouse in January, Le Gallienne Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Irrelevant – running from the 9th – 28th January 2023.

This new play is written and directed by Le Gallienne Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Keith Merrill (Entertaining Mr Sloane, The Einstein Letter), and stars Olivier Award nominee Debbie Chazen (The Smoking Room, Midsomer Murders, The Cherry Orchard).

Kicking off Seven Dials Playhouse’s 2023 offerings is Irrelevant, a savagely amusing comment on the realities of a career in Hollywood.  The play interrogates how talented artists can slip through the cracks and bright futures can suddenly be dimmed.  The play centres on Millie (Debbie Chazen), a once-promising young actress, who finds herself chewed up and spat out by the cruel churn of La La Land.  Now one of LA’s top agents, Millie is the champion she never had.  But, living vicariously through the stars she represents has a viciously entertaining way of taking its toll.

Several of Millie’s clients have left messages for her – you will love her…won’t you?

Irrelevant is produced by Le Gallienne Theatre Company whose Artistic Director Keith Merrill, established the company using the ideologies of 1920’s theatre impresario Eva Le Gallienne.  A well-known actress, she also translated all of Ibsen and Chekhov’s plays and introduced them to the US.  The company strives to produce art that is affordable, to discover new talent, using the best writing.  Written as a form of personal therapy for the multi-tasking Merrill, he knows extremely well how tough show business can be, and his character Mille echoes the experiences of many artists who do not get the chances they deserve.  Whilst writing the play, Merrill realised that this is a theme that runs through life in general and is not unique to the Arts.  This play was written as a love letter to anyone who has ever been overlooked or ignored; those who have unrequited dreams.  Despite the dark emotional theme, Irrelevant is funny, sassy, and sardonic and is sure to be lots of fun.  And definitely NOT irrelevant!

Irrelevant runs from the 9th – 28th January 2023 at Seven Dials Theatre – follow the link to book tickets – https://www.sevendialsplayhouse.co.uk/shows/irrelevant
