Bronwyn Kuss makes her highly anticipated solo debut at Edinburgh, bringing her signature dry charm and sharp wit to the stage. Known for transforming everyday misadventures and questionable life choices into comedic gold, she captivates audiences with her deadpan delivery and wry observations. A writer and comedian celebrated for her masterful storytelling, Kuss has already earned accolades like the Director’s Choice Award and Pinder Prize at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. With her sharp and perceptive observational comedy, Kuss is sure to leave you laughing long after the show ends.
The X-rated music playing before she takes the stage gives Kuss her opening gag, setting the tone for a deep dive into her past traumas. She scrutinises memories of her younger self, including her encounters with a self-hating English teacher and an imbalanced Freudian psychotherapist, from the perspective of someone older, wiser, and, often, hilariously self-aware.
When she’s not mining her misspent youth for material, Kuss focuses on more recent events, such as her girlfriend’s obsession with Facebook Marketplace (complete with a gem of a Zuckerberg gag) and her country’s preoccupation with ‘Married at First Sight.’ There’s also the ongoing tale of her attempt to rescue a drunken girl she stumbled across in an Edinburgh Park.
The gig’s highlight, which must be seen to be appreciated, comes with a nudity warning and centres around an unsolicited direct message Kuss received. It’s laugh-out-loud funny and the perfect climax to her frank and fearless show. Playing every evening until August 25th, Kuss’s dark but delightful insights make for a fantastic, definitely not family-friendly, show.
