Bowdonbury Festival Hailed A Brilliant Bank Holiday Success

Hundreds of festivalgoers enjoyed a weekend of fantastic family fun at the Bowdonbury Festival over the May Bank Holiday and raised thousands of pounds in the process.

The sun shone on the event at the Bowdon Cricket, Hockey & Squash Club at Altrincham where revellers enjoyed two days of top tunes from some of the UK’s biggest and best tribute artists.

There was also a traditional funfair, pop up stalls showcasing the best of local businesses, a fantastic foodie village packed with delicious treats provided by regional suppliers and a selection of bars offering cocktails, craft gin and beer and special soft drinks.

The festival opened on Bank Holiday Saturday with an evening of Disco Legends, featuring stellar tributes to George Michael, Diana Ross and The Bee Gees.

The three tribute headliners were supported by Le Freak Band and Radio Alty DJ Pete Scotson.

It continued on Bank Holiday Sunday with a Groovy 60s line-up which included The Pretend Beatles, critically acclaimed Maxine Mazumder as Dusty Springfield and the award-winning Dave Collison as Roy Orbison.

The new Bowdonbury Festival, sponsored by Benchmark Security Group, was organised by Max Edento raise money for Bowdonbury Cricket, Hockey and Squash Club after its main fundraising event, Bowdon Bonfire, had to be cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions.

It was one of the first big outdoor events to take place after the easing of lockdown restrictions last month and was held under Covid-safe conditions.

Max Eden said today: “It was an absolutely fantastic weekend and people came out in force to support their local club, meaning we were able to raise thousands of pounds towards its funds, enabling it to continue its brilliant work in the heart of the community.

“The performances were fabulous – all the acts were a big hit with the crowd, and the weather was perfect.

“There was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere on site, and seeing so many people back out enjoying themselves and families having fun together was worth all the hard work and dedication that went into the planning.

“I want to thank all the acts who performed, and also the volunteers who pulled out all the stops to make the weekend such a success.”
