Best Worst Advice – Greenside @ George Street

“Best Worst Advice” is a show bursting at the seams with vitality and connection, as the three performers integrate the audience’s questions into their flowing and dynamic dance routines.

All my praise goes to Erin Tracy, Anne Gehman, and Emily Aust, who brought their absolute all to this performance and helped the show glide along as seamlessly as it possibly could. With the nature of this performance relying so heavily on audience participation, there’s always the doubt that perhaps the show will only be as good as the group watching. However, even with a not-all-that-enthusiastic crowd, each one of the three women was still able to grab hold of the moment and construct the 50 minutes into something memorable. For example, the show I went to see had two strangers in the audience brought on stage to slow dance – just a little hint at the spontaneous happenings which could occur during a performance.

Although the spontaneity is a major aspect of how the show functions, it’s the dances which will keep you entertained throughout. These three performers have a skilled understanding of the way they can use their bodies to express themselves, and the retrospective of the entire 50 minutes at the end of the show perfectly demonstrates how they can capture a moment in just one movement. There were a few pauses at times where I could see the cogs in their brains really overworking for a response to the audience’s question, although these moments resolved quickly and weren’t taxing on the overall show. A lot of the praise also goes to the sound technician, who has to keep up with the ladies throughout the show and adapt to the ever-changing performance in the moment.

There’s nothing much else to say aside from: think of a question, head on over to their venue, and gain the best worst advice from these incredibly talented ladies.

Best Worst Advice, runs until August 23rd at Jade Studio at Greenside @ George Street with tickets available at https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/best-worst-advice
