Oh Zeus! literally feels like a fever dream unfolding right before your eyes. We are introduced to three extremely talented and quick-witted actors: Al Dunn, Matt Freeman and Nick Bunt. Between them, the trio take on a range of characters in this fast-paced and wonderfully chaotic production, which sees the Greek gods descend upon the wedding of Hebe and Gregg. As the celebrations unfold, we get to see how the gods react to the unlikely union between a Greek goddess and a mere mortal, with Zeus, played by Al Dunn, in particular, not taking the marriage particularly well.
The humour is very much in the style of pantomime, sitcoms and childish comedy, with the production embracing the ridiculous and never taking itself too seriously. At times, the jokes are so absurd that you cannot help but laugh. One particularly memorable running gag sees a character repeatedly being called “Moussakka”, only to emerge with a moussaka each time, accompanied by a laugh track and the question of whether anyone would like some. His name then changes to “Tzatziki” and later “Banana Split”, with the corresponding food appearing each time. It is utterly ridiculous and had the audience in stitches.
The production also makes good use of audience participation, with one particularly lucky audience member being brought onto the stage and becoming part of the performance. Their involvement only adds to the chaos, particularly when they are subsequently seduced by Hera.

The cast also occasionally break character, whether through a quick smirk or a burst of laughter, but rather than taking away from the performance, these moments add to its charm. They reinforce the feeling that everyone on stage is having as much fun as the audience.
Some moments are so surreal that you almost cannot believe what you are watching, including Zeus travelling through the Underworld on a swan-shaped pedal boat. Somehow, it works.
Matt Freeman was particularly entertaining whenever he stepped onto the stage. His range of accents, whatever they were supposed to be, only added to the comedy, while his moments of singing provided another enjoyable layer to the performance.
Overall, Oh Zeus! is a wonderfully silly and ridiculously fun production. If you want to release your inner child, switch off for an evening and simply laugh at the absurdity unfolding in front of you, this is definitely one to see.
