There are some concerts where you know from the opening notes that you’re in for an evening of big voices and bigger emotions. The Opera Boys – The Farewell Tour, at the Floral Pavilion on 19th September 2026, did exactly that, with Britain’s Got Talent star Paul Potts joining the group for what is billed as a special farewell tour.
The combination of The Opera Boys’ operatic crossover style and Potts’ instantly recognisable voice makes for an intriguing pairing, bringing together classical music, musical theatre and popular favorites in a format designed to appeal well beyond the traditional opera audience.
The Opera Boys have built their reputation around bringing opera and classical crossover to mainstream audiences, and their performance combined vocal precision with plenty of personality.
Their strength lay in their versatility. One moment the emphasis can be on rich, traditional harmonies; the next, the performance can move into musical theatre or a more contemporary number. That variety kept the show accessible and prevented the evening from becoming overly formal.
Paul Potts brought a different dimension. Since his unforgettable Nessun Dorma performance on Britain’s Got Talent, the song has become closely associated with him, and his return to that material remains an important part of his musical identity. His distinctive tone and emotional delivery provided a natural contrast to the ensemble sound of The Opera Boys.
A major attraction of the show was the mixture of styles. Rather than concentrating exclusively on traditional opera, the programme moved between well-known classical pieces, musical-theatre favorites, and popular songs.

The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton provides an excellent setting for a concert of this scale. Its theatre atmosphere gives a vocal ensemble room to create the sense of a major concert while retaining the connection between performers and audience that can sometimes be lost in much larger venues.
There is also an added sense of occasion surrounding a farewell tour. After years of performing and touring, The Opera Boys – The Farewell Tour represented a chance to celebrate the group’s music and the journey that has brought them to this point.
With Paul Potts joining them, the evening had the ingredients for something that goes beyond a straightforward classical concert.
