Vidrado takes its audience on a wholesome journey across imaginative lands filled with wonder and joyous celebration, a perfect show for the family to enjoy. It’s silly and outrageous all at once, honouring the circus tradition to find fun in the simplest of things.
Renowned for his acrobatic balancing acts, Sao Paolo artist Guilherme Torres brings Vidrado to Edinburgh Fringe 2026 for its UK Premiere. Torres plays a travelling man determined to climb a mountain, assisted by a quaint embroidered map and an imaginative array of balancing props including glass bottles and of course, unicycles.
Torres plays the fool, he is clumsy and maybe even a little ditsy to begin with as he clambers onto, over, and under set pieces on his journey to the summit. Acting as the ringleader and circus act all at once, Torres creates a sweet comedic tone through mime and constant engagement with the audience. The kids in the audience loved this, constantly exclaiming at his daring tricks, and laughing along the way.
The set is kept relatively bare, with set pieces strewn across the stage waiting for discovery by Torres. The production relies heavily on sound and lighting to build the environment and story, with sound effects of a fly, a storm, or even a rolling glass bottle. This felt like the perfect fit, keeping audience members of all age ranges involved in the action with a constant smile on their faces to see what was coming next.
The show will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling, and a spring in your step as you go out onto the streets of Edinburgh, looking at the rainy grey sky with a refreshed smile on your face.
