Shocktober – Tulley’s Farm

Tulley’s Farm in Crawley is well-known for hosting an array of events throughout the year, but when Halloween approaches, the farm truly comes alive with its spectacular Shocktober Fest. This annual event has grown into one of the UK’s most celebrated Halloween attractions, drawing thrill-seekers from far and wide for a night of spine-chilling entertainment, immersive scare mazes, live performances, and an electric festival atmosphere.

The main highlight of Shocktober Fest is undoubtedly its collection of scare mazes, each uniquely themed and meticulously designed to deliver heart-pounding scares and unforgettable experiences. One of the standout attractions this year was Doomtown, a masterfully crafted maze that transported guests into a post-apocalyptic town overrun by the undead. The attention to detail was extraordinary, visitors wandered through eerie graveyards, an abandoned church, and even familiar locations like a faux Blockbuster and a Greggs, complete with displays of pasties and rolls. The level of realism was impressive, making it feel like a genuine horror movie set brought to life.

Another remarkable maze, Coven of 13, immersed visitors into the world of witches and dark rituals. Guests ventured through a foreboding lair where eerie chants and flickering lights created an unsettling tension as witches prepared their next sacrifice. The atmosphere was thick with suspense, making it one of the most immersive experiences of the night.

Not all mazes relied purely on jump scares. Electrick Circus, for example, offered a blend of horror and optical illusions. This twisted funhouse featured disorienting visuals, sponge-like floors, and mind-bending tricks that played with perception, adding a creative and unexpected twist to the usual fear factor.

For those seeking a more psychologically chilling experience, Purgatory stood out as a fan favourite. Guests navigated dark corridors guided only by a flickering lantern that seemed to fail at the worst possible moments, while sinister nuns lurked in the shadows, waiting to strike. It was tense, atmospheric, and deeply unsettling.

Beyond the mazes, Shocktober Fest offered an incredible festival vibe with live music, DJs, cabaret performances, and a wide variety of food and drink stalls. The combination of entertainment, atmosphere, and attention to detail made for a truly unforgettable night. The only real downside? There was simply too much to experience in one visit, a testament to just how brilliantly executed Shocktober Fest really is.
