YNWA – Let’s Talk About Six…Baby – Royal Court Liverpool

Now before I start this review, I must admit was a little nervous about reviewing at The Royal Court Liverpool’s show ‘Let’s Talk About Six….Baby’ by Nicky Allt. Mainly because I’m clueless about football. Instead of shouting go the night reds and boo the blues I normally shout go everybody. However, knowing I’ve never seen a bad show at the royal court I was excited to expand my knowledge and last night was no exception from the moment the lights went down, and Led Zeppelin came out the speakers.

It started with Tommy (Jake Abraham) Paula (Lindzi Germain) Tia (Lydia Morales – Scully), Gerry (Mark Monaghan) and Kenny (Lenny Wood) walking on to the stage to say their final farewells to their dad and grandad. Once back at the pub Tia and Kenny got into an argument on who’s the biggest fan of Liverpool FC. There we learned about how Liverpool FC began all the way back to John McKenna and W. E Barclay.

This show was a journey through the years with all the greats Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly and Sir Kenny Dalglish but not forgetting the current Jurgen Klopp and many more the show was packed full of songs often heard with the grounds of Anfield stadium. Played by Busker and Kopite Daniel Ross and a resident band consisting of Spencer Butts, Matt Connor, Ben Galdwin and Adam Keast.

There was a moment within the show that (and no word of a lie) there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as they spoke of Hillsborough delivered by the great Lindzi Germain. How that day in April was the colour of black a sad day for those lost, the brave 97 who will never walk alone and never be forgotten.

Football is very much like the theatre it’s a performance that is shared, it brings people together thankfully no one takes a piss in one another’s pockets now. But your invested in the footballers, the game and the passion. One thing that was clear about the show last night is that Liverpool FC like the city is for the people everyone is welcome no matter what. Years ago, Everton and Liverpool supporters would travel together and enjoy the mighty game. Sadly, it’s not like that now but we can hope that it’ll be that way again.

I’m always blown away by the shows at Royal Court and i will say it again. Ive never seen a bad show there and to be quite honest this is probably one of the best shows I’ve seen there it was faultless. A special shout out to the backstage crew and technicians because how they got all the AV and cues in time as simply a masterclass in how to do it perfectly.

I may not be a football fan, but you can guarantee I’m coming back to watch this again and again.
