Stick Man – The Lowry

Freckle Productions’ stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved Stick Man is a delightful treat for families, bringing laughter, joy, and a touch of magic to The Lowry.

With live music, clever puppetry, and plenty of fun songs, this energetic performance captures the heart of the original story while adding its own unique theatrical touch!

The talented cast of three delivers a captivating performance, effortlessly switching between characters, instruments, and puppeteering. Their enthusiasm is infectious, drawing the audience into Stick Man’s adventurous quest to reunite with his “Stick Lady Love” and their children. The puppetry is particularly inventive, with a combination of props, movement, and creative staging breathing life into Stick Man and his ever-changing surroundings.

The live music is a standout feature, adding rhythm and warmth to the narrative. From catchy singalongs to atmospheric soundscapes, the songs are perfectly tailored to engage younger audience members while keeping parents entertained, my toddler was throughly entertained throughout!

For me, What sets this production apart is its perfect balance of humour, heart, and creativity. Children giggle with delight as Stick Man encounters mischievous animals, a wayward dog, and even a fire-ready Christmas scene. Meanwhile, parents can appreciate the underlying themes of perseverance, family, and belonging.

The minimalist staging works brilliantly, allowing the performers’ energy and ingenuity to shine. The pacing keeps little ones enthralled, and at just under an hour, the show is perfectly timed for family audiences.

Freckle Productions has produced a joyous and heartwarming adaptation of Stick Man that stays true to Julia Donaldson’s tale while bringing it to life with fresh theatrical magic. This festive treat is a must-see for anyone looking to make family memories this holiday season.

Verdict: A Must See for Young & Old this festive season!
