Jessie Nixon: Don’t make me regret this! – The Crate, Assembly George Square

“Jessie Nixon’s ‘Don’t Make Me Regret This’ is a masterclass in comedic storytelling.

This is her debut fringe show, and Jessie was making the most of this opportunity.

From the moment she burst onto the stage, Nixon had the audience captivated with her razor-sharp wit and unapologetic humour. Her relatable anecdotes and clever observations, occasionally dark ones, on everyday life had the audience nodding in agreement.

One of the standout aspects of Nixon’s show is her ability to tackle sensitive topics with ease and abandonment. She fearlessly addresses topics like relationships on social media, body image, and aging, making light of the struggles and absurdities that come with each. Her confidence and charisma on stage are infectious, and she has a way of making everyone feel included, even if it is taking your phone and taking a pic down her shirt.

Nixon’s delivery is sharp, with perfect timing and a knack for getting a double hit for a gag when you least expect it. Her writing is clever and incisive, often catching the audience off guard with unexpected twists and turns and the odd sucker punch.

Not content with sticking to stand up, Nixon displays her comedy song writing ability with a ditty about Billy from Texas and his Nivea burns, who messaged her on a dating app.

We also get an insight into various subjects through the medium of poetry that will make your jaw hurt.

The venue, The Crate, is just that. Several shipping containers joined together to create an intimate venue, which actually works. Sound and lights were provided by in-house tech which added to the atmosphere. I would have been interested to see the show in a bigger venue; I am sure Jessie has more than enough Moxy to handle it.

“Don’t Make Me Regret This” is a full on and entertaining roller-coaster of a ride that will leave you eager for more. Jessie Nixon is a talented comedian who knows how to get the best from her writing. If you are looking for a night out that is raw and rude and will leave you satisfied, look no further than Nixon’s show.

It is honest and adult themed but there are plenty of warnings on the Fringe info and before you enter. But if that is what you want, grab it with both hands.

Billy Connolly once said that you cannot trust someone who does not swear, Jessie’s integrity is impeccable!
