Dianne & Vito: Red Hot and Ready – Floral Pavilion

Burn the Floor is back! And this time it is red, hot and ready with Dianne Buswell and Vito Coppola, the two most recent professional winners of Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC. This is the most recent production under the Burn the Floor banner, created by Jason Gilkison. It is two hours of fun, personality and of course, dancing!

The audience gets taken on a journey through the dances and also the chats from Dianne and Vito. With Dianne hailing from Australia and Vito from Italy, there were a lot of references to missing homes and families, but it definitely helped the audience feel closer to the two dancers, rather than just what they get to see on TV between September and December each year. It helped to learn more about them and their families and there was even a special appearance from Vito’s family in Italy!

Whilst the two names are the main draw to the show, they are not the only two members of the cast. They were also joined by dancers from around the globe, with different specialties, such as ballet dancer Talia Fowler and breakdancer Jaih Betote. It was wonderful to see them get to showcase their talents and not just be solely focused on the Ballroom and Latin dances that we are used to. The dancers were rounded off by Rosa Came, Harijs Locs, Robbie Kmetoni and Ana Riera. All of the dancers got their moment to shine, which is such a lovely touch of the production, to acknowledge them in this way.

The dancers were also joined by vocalists Lois Faith and Sam Turrell, who sang well-known hits along with other songs to fit the dances. Whilst both vocalists were strong with powerhouse voices, they didn’t detract away from the main purpose of the evening. It was a smaller ‘band’ than I was expecting with just Musical Director, Gareth Weedon on keys and drummer Harry Soriano. All of the dancers, vocalists and musicians were introduced twice, once at the start of the evening and later on during act 2. It seemed a very conscious effort to make sure the right people got the recognition they deserved.

Jason Gilkison definitely put thought into not just the choreography, but the production as a whole, as it was mostly seamless and it was obvious that a lot of time and effort went into making sure the show was the best it could be, the audience were completely red hot and ready for more by the end of the evening!
