Angela Griffin to interview Johnny Vegas at Shakespeare North Playhouse

Beloved comic and actor Johnny Vegas sits down with actress and TV Presenter Angela Griffin, in the second of Shakespeare North Playhouse’s ‘Evening With’ events on Friday 29th July in the Cockpit Theatre.

Before sipping cuppas with a knitted monkey or being a TV panel regular on QI and 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Vegas was perhaps one of the most fearlessly honest stand-ups that this country has ever produced. Revered for his comedic rants and use of surreal humor, Johnny is a true Northern legend (and a local one at that!)

Leeds-born Angela is a firm favourite with audiences around the world.  Her road to success began in 1993 when, as a 16-year-old, she assumed the role of hairdresser Fiona Middleton in ITV’s Coronation Street. Since then, Angela has appeared in a wide variety of much-loved dramas from Cutting It, Lewis and Holby City to Netflix series White Lines and more recently Irvine Welsh’s Crime. Angela is currently filming BBC One’s Waterloo Road in which she will reprise the role of Kim Campbell, now Head Teacher at the iconic secondary school..

Prepare for an evening of fabulously northern conversation as Angela nosedives into Vegas’ career and early years, uncovering how an eleven-year-old Catholic trainee priest from St Helens grew up to become the North West’s answer to Lenny Bruce!

The ‘Evening With’ events will work a little bit like your school relay team- the interviewee from the last event passing on the baton to become the interviewer for the next! Our baton is a little different though, designer Abby Clarke has crafted a beautiful golden key that will be passed on from interviewer to interviewee, emblazoned with the initials of Shakespeare North Playhouse.

Angela Griffin will be the next interviewee to take to the stage in our Cockpit Theatre with her interview taking place in early 2023. The interviewer and date will be announced in the next few months.
