100 Things You’re Overthinking – Alchemist Edinburgh

I had the pleasure of watching “100 Things You’re Overthinking” at the Edinburgh Fringe, and I’m still grinning from ear to ear.

In its 6th appearance at the fringe, you can appreciate why it has sold out in previous years.

Ori Halevy and his merry bunch of standup comedians give a masterclass in taking the mundane and amplifying it to absurd proportions. They all tackled the intricacies of life and burning issues with a refreshing blend of humour and relatability.

With immersive participation from the start, audience members write down the questions they are overthinking, anonymously, on pieces of paper. The comics then create a set on the spot, tailored to the audience, pure genius!

From the moment they stepped onto the stage, it was clear that they were on a mission to skewer our collective neuroses. They dissected parental anxiety, the lives of cats and the existential dread of adulting with precision and wit. Each reply from the collective comedy mind was expertly crafted in an instant to resonate with the audience, and the laughter was contagious.

What struck me most was their ability to walk the fine line between ridicule and empathy. They didn’t just mock our overthinking; they acknowledged the absurdity of it all while also poking fun at themselves. It was a clever balancing act that made the audience feel seen and heard.

They quickly established running gags as they took turns to take the helm. They steered the comedy ship safely in to dock with a collective quickfire round.

Ori, our host for this voyage oozed energy that was infectious, and they all worked the room like pros. The audience was in stitches from start to finish, and even the more introspective moments were handled with a deft touch, or a simple reply.

If you are looking for a show that will make you laugh, nod in recognition, and maybe even inspire you to let go of a few anxieties, “100 Things You’re Overthinking” is the one. The unique perspective and razor-sharp replies make this show a must-see for anyone who’s ever overthought, well, anything.

In short, this show is a hilarious exploration of the dark and quirky crevices of the human mind, and I’m still experiencing impromptu chuckling about it hours later.

Don’t overthink it, get your tickets now and experience it for yourself. I say get your tickets because entry without a ticket is not guaranteed. However, with a changing line up of comedians, every show is a wonderful surprise. A veritable comedy cracker with its laugh-out-loud humour, relatable observations, and clever commentary on life, “100 Things You’re Overthinking” is a standout addition to the Edinburgh Fringe.

And if it didn’t tickle your funny bones, come to another show because it will be completely different, depending on the audience’s questions.

100 Things you’re overthinking runs until the 24th August, 14.30 and 15.45 at The Alchemist, 51 George St.
