Theatre Café Diner – London

A homage to the famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner in New York City, the award-winning Theatre Café has just launched its very own theatrical dining experience in the heart of London’s West End. 

Like its sister venue, the Theatre Café Diner is decked out in full theatrical decor. A glittering golden sign greets customers at the door, alongside colourful photographs of all the West End favourites from Wicked to Frozen. The inside is just as impressive too, covered from head to toe in theatrical memorabilia, with images from shows and framed sheet music signed by cast members. There were theatrically themed areas dedicated to the likes of SIX, & Juliet and Cats, each area had its own unique charm and flair. Theatre fans will love the incredible attention to detail, from the iconic Heathers costumes framed on the wall to the hilarious white spirit bottles and toilet seat of the Mischief corner, this diner is a stagey dream come true.

The menu, which was classic diner fare, was filled with the perfect theatre puns. Standouts included the Aaron Burr-ger’ (beef burger with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, pickles and diced onion) and ‘Look at Me, I’m Mac & Cheese’ (fried mac and cheese balls with Caesar dressing). There were themed cocktails too, including a Pornstar Mar-Tina, Bend and Schnapps and a Starlight Expresso Martini. Although the wait times were a little long, the food and drinks tasted great, and it was opening night.

The true stars at the diner however were the singing waiters, delivering show-stopping musical hits from the likes of Hairspray, Waitress and Beetlejuice while serving guests. The staff took to the mini stages throughout the venue while performing, moving between both floors so everyone got a chance to hear them sing (there were also TVs so you didn’t miss anything). You couldn’t help but sing along while being entertained by the talented team. At times the singing was intense and a little too loud, a few more breaks between songs would be nice, there is no denying the star quality of the staff. The team were brilliant, delivering service with a smile while putting on a great show.

For those looking for the perfect pre-theatre dinner spot or fun night out, this diner may be the perfect place for you. With plans for “musical brunches” and the odd West End star stopping by for a song or two, the Theatre Café Diner is the new must-visit destination for stagey fans wanting their theatrical fix.
