It’s January, it’s cold but last night attending Swan Lake at the Manchester Opera House, brought to life by the supremely talented Mergaliyev Classical Ballet, was nothing short of magical. It was the perfect tonic for the January Blues.
This timeless masterpiece, with Tchaikovsky’s exquisite score conducted by the masterful Guntars Bernats, transported us to a realm of beauty, grace, and wonder—a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
The troupe’s exceptional talent was evident from the very first scene. Nilay Tahiroglu, as Odette, delivered a performance of breathtaking finesse. Her delicate movements and emotional depth captured the swan princess’s vulnerability and strength with stunning precision. I also have to mention Kadir Okurer who was outstanding as the Jester, infusing the stage with lively energy and perfect comedic timing. His technical brilliance was nothing short of incredible!
The company as a whole were one of the most talented ensembles I have seen on one stage together. The synchronization of the corps de ballet was impeccable, creating mesmerizing patterns that swept across the stage like ripples on a lake. Every dancer brought poise and passion, ensuring that the story unfolded seamlessly and beautifully.
Adding to the enchantment was the live orchestra, conducted by Guntars Bernats. The musicians masterfully conveyed every nuance of Tchaikovsky’s score, from the hauntingly beautiful “Swan Theme” to the jubilant finale. The orchestra’s presence rounded off a wonderful night at the ballet.
Mergaliyev Classical Ballet has succeeded in delivering a production that is a timeless classic, brimming with talent throughout!
Whether you are a ballet aficionado or a newcomer, this production of Swan Lake is an unforgettable experience on one note to be missed.
Verdict: Mergaliyev Classical Ballet sets the standard high, go see the best!
