North West End UK are delighted to be attending, and writing about this year’s Liverpool Improvisation Festival, with shows to be held at The Unity Theatre, and improv workshops which will be held at the Joe H Makin Drama centre – LJMU.
If you have never seen an ‘improv’ show or (if we can use the older word) ‘extemporisation’ show, then you are missing a treat. For those of you who are old enough, you may remember the show ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ hosted by Clive Anderson, which was many people’s introduction to improv, but if you are a young thing, go to YouTube for a taster session, it’s a classic! Every show at this festival is a world premiere, no storyline is the same, and as an audience member, you are the co-creators, so your genius suggestions are the inspiration that is used to weave that show’s magic. Yes, that is right, these talented performers make up the show in front of your eyes, they are playwrights, directors, actors, and all the bits in-between. Go along and see, everyone is welcome, and so are your suggestions!
Get ready for:
Liverpool: A City of Improv
The Liverpool Improvisation Festival (LiF) brings the best of the world’s improvisation to Liverpool and the best of Liverpool to the world. Building on a legacy of improvisational excellence – from Ken Campbell and Improbable Theatre to Hoof! and Showstoppers – LiF brings the best local, national, and international talent to the heart of the city.
A selection of shows on offer:
Crime Scene Improvisation (CSI): Celebrating their 10th anniversary with the festival, this multi-award-winning group presents a comedic murder mystery, “the world’s daftest whodunnit.”
Box of Frogs: This multi-talented and quick-witted group will create spontaneous songs, sketches, and scenes from the suggestions of the audience.
School of Night: Celebrating their 20th anniversary, this world-renowned troupe, who first performed at The Globe Theatre, brings their unique blend of literary improvisation to the festival.
Taxi Tales: Sixteen international and national improvisers will present two ensemble shows. “One night on the town” explores the taxi driver as witness, therapist, and confidant, as passengers share their stories under the city lights.
Jungle of emotions: As part of our children’s and family offer this show is perfect for young minds eager to learn and have spontaneous fun.
This is just a taster of the festival’s offerings. The programme also includes clowning, comedy, shadow puppetry, theatre, and storytelling. LiF showcases the full range of improvised performance.
The improvised shows run from the 24th-26th April, and the workshops are held on the 27th April. To book tickets, and to find out more about the festival, follow this link to the Liverpool Improvisation Festival – www.Liverpoolimprovfestival.com We look forward to seeing you there!
