After their inaugural tour in 2023, the Dreamcoat Stars are back again with their UK tour for 2024 and tonight I am at The Floral Pavilion, New Brighton and an extremely full looking audience who are here to have a fun night with great songs, fantastic vocals, and some fabulous dance moves.
Tonight’s line up are Sam Cassidy, Keith Jack, Rob McVeigh, and Graham Tudor. Each member of this group has strong links to the musical Joseph and the amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, hence the name The Dreamcoat Stars, and it’s through their love of the show and theatre that have brought these stars together to deliver a fantastic night of entertainment.
The stage is set up with a levelled scaffolding stage in the centre of the main stage to create levels for the stars to sing from and six large pieces of fabric, lit in assorted colours to create the illusion of parts of the Dreamcoat. Lighting, designed by Andrew Ellis is wonderful, bringing the stage to life and picking out important areas during different songs to set the moods fantastically.
There are a considerable number of songs from an array of musicals which entertains the wide range of audience members with songs from shows such as Hairspray, Wicked, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, and Jersey Boys to say the least. The Dreamcoat Stars are also joined on stage at various points by a local choir, tonight’s are from Stagecoach Wirral, who add some wonderful backing in a few songs and have their own spotlight singing a Medley of songs from Matilda the musical.
The four guys are all very likeable, telling jokes and stories throughout the show and each tell their own story of how they got to where they were and sing a song linked to their story.
A standout moment for me comes from Cassidy who tells us a personal journey story, very moving and honest, followed by a stunning version of She Used to Be Mine from Waitress. Absolute Goosebumps.
Some other wonderful moments are a fantastic Whitney Houston Medley, A phenomenal version of Defying Gravity and a Stunning rendition of Bring Him Home. All four guys gave everything and shone so bright, delivering incredible vocals and some brilliant choreography provided by Lizzie Moore.
During the interval, the audience are asked to send questions in, and some are answered on stage, I personally felt the audience could have done without this section as the energy seemed to fall a little flat at this point and the audience got a little restless, taking a little while to get lively again.
Overall, a fabulous night of great entertainment by an extremely talented group of performers.
