The original Broadway production of Jason Gilkison’s BURN THE FLOOR is being recreated for a strictly limited tour in July 2022. THE REUNION features some of the most celebrated alumni of Burn the Floor including Strictly Come Dancing’s Aljaž Škorjanec, Kevin Clifton, Janette Manrara, Karen Hauer, Dianne Buswell, Joanne Clifton, Luba Mushtuk, Kai Widdrington & Robin Windsor, plus more cast just announced. Ahead of the tour hitting the road next month we sat down with one of its stars Dianne Buswell to talk all things dance.
What is your favourite dance of the show?
Although they’ve not started rehearsals Dianne said she’d been in the show for 8 years before Strictly! She said she really hopes that ‘Ballroom Beat’ is in the show again though as she says the music and choreography is absolutely insane! This opens the show and it’s absolutely incredible!
If you could create a Burn the Floor show dance who would be the one artist you’d use for the music? Why?
Dianne said that ‘Your Song’ by Elton John is her favourite song of all time so she’d love to dance a waltz to that!
What is your favourite Latin or ballroom? Which is your favourite dance from each?
Samba or a Jive but she settled on a Jive as her favourite Latin with the Waltz being her favourite Ballroom dance.
If you were to create a three-course meal to accompany the show, what would it consist of?
Starter – Something with Chorizo for the spice of the show.
Main – Surf and Turf as it’s got a bit of everything, and you should expect a lot from the show.
Dessert – Although the show has lots of spice Dianne also explained that the show has some heart-wrenching and sweet points, so she’d go for a Chocolate Mousse with a side of strawberries.
She added there’s also some cheeky Charleston bits in too! She explained that different people will be dancing different dances and she’s really exciting!
What dance has your favourite costume and why?
Dianne said she loves all her Ballroom dresses and loves the glitz and glam and the inspiration that comes from the 1920s and 1940s. She loves being in long beaded dresses and having her hair finger waved. She said this was her vibe to a tee.
What’s your favourite dance you’ve seen on Strictly or is there a dance you’d wish you’d done?
She said she loved the energy in Gangnam style when Ed Balls and Katya!
What’s your favourite dance you’ve ever done?
Dianne’s favourite dance she’s ever done was her quickstep with Joe Sugg at Blackpool!
Who would be your dream partner why?
Hugh Jackman! She explained that she always answers this!
