32 Above Brings a Taste of NYC to Liverpool

As live performance begins again across the country, a series of socially distanced cabarets featuring West End stars and the city’s finest musical theatre performers will be staged in Liverpool this autumn.

32 Above is inspired by New York City’s iconic 54 Below and will take place at The Pillbox @ Frederiks on Hope Street, a street that is regarded as the heart of the Liverpool’s theatre scene. 

Produced by Musical Director, George Francis (Amelie, Liverpool Everyman Rep Seasons, Miracle on 34th St) and friends. 32 Above promises an evening of song led by the house band featuring George Francis (Musical Director/Keyboard) Danny Miller (Bass) Emily Linden (Guitar) Rhys Jiang (Drums) sound design by Will Miney.

The cabarets will initially take place over three dates throughout September and October and as well as featuring established performers, each date will include a guest spot for a recent musical theatre graduate.

Launching the cabaret series at on Wednesday 23rd September, 8pm are performers Lauren McQueen (Hollyoaks, Ordinary Lies, 4 O’Clock Club) Joe Speare (Elf, The Colour Purple, To Kill a Mockingbird, Guys and Dolls) and Gillian Hardie (Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia, Blood Brothers). With the graduate guest spot for the evening going to Leah Willis (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama)

Next up on Wednesday 14th October, 8pm is Melanie La Barrie (& Juliet, Wicked, Everyman Rep, Matilda) Grace Galloway (Blood Brothers, Pinnochio) and Stephen Fletcher (The Last 5 Years, Mam I’m Ere) who will be joined by recent graduate Richard Aaron (Mountview)

Completing the series on Wednesday 28th October, 8pm are performers Kenny Thompson (The Lion King, The History Boys, Rent) Marcus Collins (The X Factor, Kinky Boots, Hair) and Kelly Sweeney (SIX, Hair, Unexpected Joy) who will be joined by recent graduate Louise Cowling (LMA/Hammond).

Tickets to this unmissable cabaret series cost just £15 and are limited to 50 per performances in line with social distancing regulations. Tickets on sale at Midday on Monday 7th September via TicketLab.

When I visit NYC the community feel always reminds me of Liverpool and nowhere more than at 54 Below, the cabaret bar that inspired these nights. We want to celebrate the musical theatre community we have here in Liverpool with evenings of great live music with familiar faces and new graduates who have come into the industry in the most difficult year. I hope it’ll be a magical evening”
